6 Things I Miss About Life Before I Was a Yoga Teacher

Artistic representation for 6 Things I Miss About Life Before I Was a Yoga Teacher

I was hesitant to leave my cozy apartment and venture out into the world, but with the encouragement of my loving partner, I took the leap and started teaching yoga classes. I began with a small group of students, but my passion for yoga and my desire to share it with others quickly led to a growing number of students. As the classes grew, so did my confidence, and I found myself enjoying the 7:30 am wake-up call. I began to see that teaching yoga was not just about the physical practice, but also about the mental and emotional well-being of my students. I realized that yoga is a journey, not a destination. With each passing day, I found myself growing more passionate about sharing this gift with others, and I began to see the positive impact that yoga had on my students’ lives. As I look back on my journey, I am reminded of the countless moments that helped shape me into the yoga teacher I am today. There were the early morning wake-up calls, the nervousness of teaching new students, and the countless hours of planning and preparation that went into each class.

Preparing for the Journey

To become a yoga teacher, one must first understand the depth of their own practice. This involves a thorough examination of their own strengths, weaknesses, and motivations. It is essential to recognize the areas where they can improve and develop a plan to address these shortcomings. This introspection is crucial in building a strong foundation for teaching.

The Benefits of a Beginner’s Mindset

When I first started attending classes, I was eager to learn and absorb as much information as possible. However, I soon realized that trying to keep up with the pace and remembering every detail was overwhelming. It was only when I adopted a beginner’s mindset that I was able to truly appreciate the experience. β€’ The benefits of a beginner’s mindset include:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Improved focus and concentration
  • Enhanced creativity and curiosity
  • Increased sense of wonder and awe
  • Embracing the Unknown

As a perfectionist, it’s easy to get caught up in trying to control every aspect of the learning process. However, this approach can lead to feelings of frustration and burnout.

I didn’t need more. But in my 30s, I started noticing that my self-care routine wasn’t working as effectively as it used to. I felt sluggish, anxious, and unmotivated. I realized that I needed to expand my self-care routine beyond meditation and other practices to maintain my overall well-being. So, I started incorporating new activities into my routine, such as reading, taking long walks, and practicing yoga. I also increased my physical activity, such as going for runs and strength training workouts. I made sure to prioritize sleep and eat a balanced diet. I also made time for social activities, such as spending time with friends and family, and joining a book club. I was hesitant at first, adding new activities to my routine, but I knew that it was necessary to maintain my overall well-being.

As a teacher, I had to learn to listen to my body and honor its limitations.

Financial Considerations for Full-Time Yoga Teachers

    Setting Up a Business

As a full-time yoga teacher, you will need to set up a business that can generate income.

I had a clear idea of the costs and was transparent about the benefits of my services. In order to build trust and rapport with potential clients, I made sure to be approachable and friendly in my marketing materials and communication with them. I focused on highlighting the unique value proposition of my offerings and the personal touch I bring to each interaction.

I miss the freedom to explore and ponder without the weight of a specific goal or outcome in mind. I miss the simplicity of reading for the sake of reading. In the age of information, we are constantly bombarded with information, and our minds are filled with thoughts, ideas, and concepts. We are no longer able to escape the constant stream of information, and our thoughts are constantly being influenced by the world around us.
