The 102nd floor of the One World Trade Center in New York was transformed into a serene oasis, a tranquil space for over 100 yoga practitioners to unwind and connect with their inner selves. This special session, hosted by the Consulate General of India, New York, symbolized peace, resilience, and hope, amidst a site of past tragedy.

The event, held on a Monday morning, was a unique opportunity for participants to begin their day with a sense of peace and positivity. Consul General Binaya Pradhan opened the session by emphasizing the significance of yoga in fostering unity and healing. The over-hour-long session included a variety of yogasanas, breathwork, and meditation, all led by Ruchika Lal from the Art of Living Foundation. Before the session began, Lal took a moment to acknowledge the building’s history, noting that the practice of yoga here represented a powerful symbol of peace and unity. She reminded the participants that yoga is about bringing people together, and that the act of practicing yoga in this space was a testament to that unity. As the session progressed, participants were encouraged to let go of their worries and focus on their breath, creating a sense of calm and inner peace. The session was a beautiful reminder of the transformative power of yoga, and its ability to bring people together in a shared moment of mindfulness. In the lead-up to International Yoga Day on June 21, several yoga events are planned across the United States, including sessions at iconic locations such as Times Square and the United Nations headquarters. The event has gained significant attention in recent years, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading a landmark session at the UN in 2023, years after the day’s first global observance in 2014. The practice of yoga has a rich history, dating back thousands of years. It is a holistic practice that aims to unite the body, mind, and spirit. Through a variety of techniques, including asanas, pranayama, and meditation, yoga seeks to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
