The Concept of Sympathetic Joy
Mudita is a Sanskrit word that translates to “sympathetic joy,” aka the joy that we feel for others. The word came up early on in YTT and has been a surprisingly critical part of my training. It is a concept that has been explored in various spiritual traditions, including Buddhism and Hinduism.

A constant in an ever-changing world, YTT has given me the strength to continue moving forward, even when I thought I was lost. It has allowed me to connect with my body in ways I never thought possible and to understand my own desires and boundaries. Through its teachings, I have come to appreciate the importance of self-care and the need to prioritize my own needs. Through this journey, I have learned that the power of the mind is not to be underestimated. The ability to rewire one’s mind and cultivate a positive mindset can have a profound impact on one’s life. YTT has taught me how to quiet the inner critic and listen to my intuition. This is a skill that has greatly improved my relationships and overall well-being. By being more mindful and present, I have been able to navigate life’s challenges with greater ease and confidence.
I have been focusing on my own practice at home.”

I’ll miss the sense of belonging that came with being part of a community that shares my values and passions. I’ll miss the sense of purpose that came with being part of a movement that is working to make the world a better place. But I’m not going to miss the early morning wake-up calls, the endless hours of paperwork, and the constant pressure to perform. I’m not going to miss the feeling of being overwhelmed by the sheer volume of tasks and responsibilities that came with being a part of a large organization. As I prepare to leave YTT, I’m reminded of the importance of self-care and prioritizing my own well-being. I’ve learned that taking care of myself is not selfish, but necessary for maintaining my physical and mental health.
